Where most disinfectants only kill germs when wet, SD Labs’ surface coating products form a durable coating that continuously kill dangerous microorganisms for extended periods of time.
Because the products bond at the molecular level, they are not readily degraded by routine cleaning or disinfecting processes when using non-abrasive products and tools. Our coatings have been demonstrated to kill or reduce the levels of microbes that come in contact with the coating for up to twelve months with a single application.
HOW IT WORKS
Our surface coating products are made with a US EPA registered antimicrobial active ingredient proven to kill or inactivate a variety of viruses, bacteria, fungi, and mold through a physical mode of action. The positive ionic charge in the active ingredient attracts microbes to the coating and physically ruptures their membranes killing microorganisms and inactivating viruses. The active ingredient is stabilized with proprietary surface tension releasers and other ingredients allowing the product to be applied to almost any surface. The unique chemistry offers an industry-leading level of performance for long-term durability and is backed by a wide array of scientific, academic, and independent laboratory data. SD Pro and SD ST create an invisible coating that functions as a continuously self-disinfecting surface capable of killing germs for many months.

Safe and Easy to Use
All of our surface coating products are safe, non-flammable, non-corrosive, and have very low toxicity.
These products can help to eliminate or reduce the need for potentially harmful cleaning and disinfecting chemicals. Unlike chemical-based cleaners and disinfectants, and metal or triclosan-based treatments, our manufacturer’s proprietary silane chemistry is non-leaching, non-sacrificial, and cannot be absorbed through the skin when dried. In sacrificial technologies, the active chemical agents lose part of their molecular structure in the destruction of targeted organisms, sometimes releasing harmful byproducts into the environment and into our bodies. In the case of non-sacrificial technologies (such as silanes), the process does not require the active ingredient to be compromised and leaching does not occur. And because the target organism does not metabolize our coating products, microbes are unlikely to develop resistance compared to other products with different modes of action. The “always on” activity of these unique coatings can lead to less frequent disinfecting and easier surface cleaning saving time and money for our customers while significantly reducing their risk. It is important to note that the coating must be wiped or cleaned to prevent dirt or other debris from creating a layer on top of the product coating which will impede the ability of microorganisms to contact it.
